On a private lane set deep in the woods, this 1970’s, split level ranch might easily have become a tear down. But with an existing open plan living space with high ceilings and the potential for great sunlight and views , the new owners saw the potential to create a modern loft- like residence. Hemmed in by wetlands and rocky slopes the new additions extended upward into the trees and outward over the wetland area.

The existing portion of house was redesigned to capture every bit of usable space, modernize the windows, exterior siding, interior lighting and finishes, and optimize the natural light and views. An existing garage was given a facelift with a new door and stained cedar siding and the first floor rooms were reorganized into kid’s bedrooms and a laundry/pantry room. The main addition was the 530 sf addition at the top floor, creating an eye level view of mature deciduous trees. The updated kitchen/open plan living space is adjacent to a new, partially cantilevered dining room and both are connected to a newly re-built deck with stainless steel cable rails .
