SellarsLathrop Architects llc was founded by Ann Sellars Lathrop, in 1999. Both Ann and Howard Lathrop are managing principals, providing value and experience through 65+ years of combined architectural experience and over 25 years of residential experience. SellarsLathrop Architects is the recipient of such awards as an AIA, CT Alice Washburn Award, a Marvin Window and Door, Integrity Red Diamond Achiever Award, a Moffly Media A-List Award and an AIACT People’s Choice Award. In addition, SLA work can be seen in numerous print publications, on our constantly-updated Houzz profile, Facebook and LinkedIn profiles, and numerous other online sources.
The principles of SLA have had extensive experience with residential, commercial, corporate, adaptive re-use and institutional projects while working for renowned architects in Los Angeles, New York, New Haven and Chicago. With these projects has come the in-depth experience to resolve complex challenges through a wide range of architectural solutions. The desire to work on a smaller scale, to create unique, timeless and sustainable places to live and work prompted the opening of SellarsLathrop Architects llc in Westport, Connecticut.

Ann Sellars Lathrop, AIA, NCARB, is a principal at Sellars Lathrop Architects, llc. Ms Lathrop received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy of Industrial Societies, with an emphasis in Urban Design, from the University of California at Berkeley. After three years of work experience at large architectural firms in Los Angeles, she then returned to school and received a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
Her past work experiences include space planning, master planning, interior design, architectural design, management, and construction administration for a multitude of different firms and project types: Corporate interiors with Gensler and Associates in Los Angeles, commercial and institutional buildings with Philip Johnson and Moshe Safdie in New York, adaptive re-use projects with Svigals Associates in New Haven, commercial development projects with Cesar Pelli Associates in New Haven and commercial tenant fit- ups and renovation work with Torchia Associates in Chicago.
She was also a founding member of the Alliance For Architecture, a program of the Arts Council of New Haven. Ms Lathrop is interested in improving energy efficiency and implementing smart building practices to create high quality design solutions with elegance, character and style.
Howard Lathrop, AIA, NCARB, is a principal at Sellars Lathrop Architects, llc . Mr Lathrop received a Bachelor of Architecture from Texas A&M University and for many years was the Senior Design Associate at Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates. While a faculty member at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC) in Los Angeles, Mr. Lathrop also worked with the office of Charles and Ray Eames and was Design Principle of Howard Lathrop and Associates.
He has been the Senior Designer and Project Architect on a variety of building types located around the world, including the design and restoration of major metropolitan museums, Fortune 500 corporate headquarters, Institutional headquarters and schools, non-profit workplaces, and single family residential. The size of projects have varied from large scale urban multi-use complexes to a single piece of furniture. Mr. Lathrop has indepth knowledge and a broad range of experience with construction methods and detailing for all building types. He is interested in creating form and function from the expression of materials and creating buildings that work specifically for the culture in which they exist.
On a more local level, Mr. Lathrop has been involved as a volunteer Chair of the Westport School Building Committee and was twice elected to the Westport Planning and Zoning Commission. He was also involved in the 2007 Town Plan of Development and Conservation and has worked to increase the vitality of Westport’s Town Center.
